Day 7 – Return Journey

Unhitching the Airstream

I manged to hitch and unhitch the Airstream today, the powered jack is very handy and effortless. We managed to drive our car around the town of Pauanui and enjoyed nice lunch at a local cafe, the scollops are simply delicious!!

Big day towing the Airstream from Pauanui Coromandel to Lake Taupo, on a 250kms road trip. Time to say good bye to Pauanui, what a lovely town with lovely people!

John, owner of the Glade Camp Ground is kind enough to help us make a temporary sewer hose, so we can dump our waste water. Big thanks to John and Trieve for their friendship!

When you tow a 2 ton Airstream, you just have to live with 80kms/hour speed limit with people overtaking you at every opportunity.

We stopped by a rest area to be greeted by 3 friendly chickens.

Finally arrived in Taupo, and checked in at the DeBretts Camp Ground. Today is our first day camping inside the Airstream, in fact this post is composed right inside the van! I still can’t believe that we had dinner and shower right inside the Airstream, and now we are sitting on the bed blogging. What a day, it’s windy outside now, and I look forward to a good night sleep.

Starry night at Lake Taupo
